Critchley Cup 2025 – Penrith Golf Club
The Critchley Cup was reinstated to the OSBGS Calendar on June 13th 2025, coinciding with the Old St Beghians’ weekend at the school.
Penrith Golf Club hosted the event superbly, with the course in marvellous condition and the views breathtaking as always, in kindly weather.
Ten Old St Beghians participated. Congratulations to our winners;
Ben Wilson took the Critchley Cup with a score of 37 points, narrowly beating Cameron Wood by a single point.
Tom Wright won the Scratch Trophy with an excellent 75 gross, with a birdie on the last to beat Cameron Wood on the best back nine.
Andrew Johnston took home the Dick Harrison Cup for the best over 12 handicap score.
Special thanks and a welcome to Adam Macrae and Sam Thomas for connecting with the OSBGS and we are looking forward to seeing you again and competing at our many events in the years to come.

Notable thanks also to Gareth Edgar and Mike Stamper, local Penrith members, and the ever-present OSBGS figure, Rodney Atkinson, for travelling over from the North-East.
The plan is to bring back the Critchley Cup to its former glory, with an event each year coinciding with St Beghians’Day, welcoming OSB golfers of all ages and golfing abilities.

The Halford Hewitt (April 2025)
St Bees were once again proud to field a team at the 101st Halford Hewitt. The week was played in perfect Kent sunshine in April, providing the first glimpse of summer (particularly for the northern-based OSBs). The week consisted of practice rounds and competitive matches on Royal St Georges, a spectacular course full of golfing history. The team also played on Royal Princes, next door to RSG. An opportunity arose for a game at Rye at the start of the week.

Old St Beghians’ Day (14th June 2025)
Adrian Peckitt and Tom Wright represented the OSBGS at OSB Day held at the school on 14th June 2025. They attended the early Committee Meeting and then presented the OSBGS to the general OSB Society at the AGM. The aim is for the OSBGS and OSB Society to work in parallel with each other, helping each other to recruit OSBs to events, golfing and non-golfing. Golf is a great way to connect, the OSBGS is no exception to this.
The PowerPoint presentation included in the AGM talk may be seen here.
Queen Elizabeth Tournament – Edinburgh
(19th - 21st September 2025)
The OSBGS will return to Edinburgh to play at the Royal Burgess Golf Club. The weekend golfing is usually spectacular, with social opportunities in and around the city centre also available for the team. OSBs (golfing and non-golfing) are always welcome to meet, watch some golf or join for an evening meal and drinks in the city.
Please contact Tom Wright (tomosbgolf@hotmail.com) and Adrian Peckitt (rapeckitt8@hotmail.com).
